Andrew Goodwin Theory.

Summary.

- he feels that the traditional narrative analysis, doesn't really apply to pop music videos
- there are different types of structures to narrative music videos:

1. pop videos are built around songs, and songs dont usually have traditional narrative structures
2. pop music videos use  the artist as a singer and the character
3. the singer often looks directly at the camera, involving the audience directly with he performance.

Pop videos rely on repetition, the video would be played on the tv with the song being played on the radio, the continuation of the marketing of the product therefore makes it popular and people begin to like the song and the video that comes with it.

The visualisation of the song may go beyond the actual meaning of the song, this may act as pleasing and therefore sells the song less then it sells the video. Pleasing videos may encourage the audience to continue listening to the music.

the structure may include the following:

1. ILLUSTRATION: which is where the music tells a story of the lyrics that are in the song. For example:

2: AMPLIFICATION: this occurs when the videos introduce new meanings that do not contradict with the lyrics but add layers of meaning.

3. DISJUNCTURE: there is very little connection between the lyric and video or where the video may contradict the lyrics. For example Justin Biebers "Where are you now ft Diplo"
